When I was a wee laddie, my family generally shunned Halloween.  I still have a residual dislike for gory and scary costumes, but one of the few costumes I had growing up was that of a little sheep.  Who knew?

I finished HizVest just in time to wear at Rhinebeck (report to follow soon).  Since I like to do the pictures, I'll just focus on the vest here.


Having knit a favorite pair of socks in Blue Moon's colorway Mossly Manly, I fell in love with the shifting greys and yellowish greens, and knew I had to make this pattern in it as well.

I finally finished my Java socks. I started them in February.  Sad, I know.  But now it's a happy thing!    Hopefully you don't mind a picture-laden, verbally-frugal post...

Tour de Fleece is on, and I'm using it to brush up on my spindle skills!

Daybreak
No, I didn't get married.  But you may remember the stormy romance of my first Daybreak Shawl, which never actually got finished; instead I ripped it all out and started over.  

One morning on my way to work, I stopped by the lake for a photo shoot for my newly finished Daybreak, with the Malabrigo sock married to a new yarn.


I think these yarns are gonna live happily ever after!

Happy tyke gets off plane and races through Denver's new airport on the speedy moving sidewalks and escalators.  He takes a few detours on the way to maximize sidewalk coverage.



The architecture is beautiful, but the old art museum building strikes him as strangely somber. 



He narrowly escapes being slowly and painfully digested in the many stomachs of two very, very large cows.

Show-n-Tell time.  I finished my Legolas kerchief this week, despite working on my super-secret knitting as well.  I won't show you the pictures of the shawl before I learned that I had to really block it out hard and tell it who's boss.  This morning before running to work, I managed to snap a few pictures in the gloriously golden morning light.

While that is great news, it also means I'm spending my time driving when I could be knitting on a bus or shut in at home, again knitting.  Ha. 

So I haven't made a lot of progress on the knitting, you could say.  Let's tally up what I've got:

I'm a lazy blogger.  It felt right to post on the project page in Ravelry, and I don't feel like rewriting it all, so here's what I posted there, with a few minor edits:
I started these two at a time on a long circular needle, using a larger size than prescribed to make me-sized socks. I wound two skeins of alpaca/silk lace yarn for my upcoming Evenstar Shawl.  I slightly freaked at the feeling of fragility in the yarn as I opened up the hanks.  And I had a little fun taking pics with my Hemlock Ring as well.




The Olympic knitting is in a way a sort of time-bound training for my bigger project on the Evenstar.  Further up and further in!

What can I say?  I'm in love.

January has been a time of dreaming up cabled sweaters, brushing up old English dances, and - (cheezy trumpet fanfare) - finishing my dad's sweater vest!  It fits him well, despite my fears, and I'm very happy with it, overall.  The bottom ribbing hangs a little loosely in front.  Not bad, considering how many factors I was dealing with.

In part the first, I left you with the most exciting cliff-hanger ever!  And today, I have an even better one!  


I arrived in Albany/Rensselaer on Friday afternoon, with the most gorgeous weather imaginable.  



The station is located in Rensselaer, just across the Hudson River from New York's capital city.  Having a couple hours to kill, I strolled and took pictures.

I made a trip up to Rhinebeck, NY for their sheep and wool festival.  Apparently it's an event not to be missed, so I made it a point to...not miss it.  Thanks to the help of a wonderful host, I was able to see my dream become a reality.
